YouTube TV is giving subscribers a $20 credit as consolation for the Disney blackout
YouTube TV is offering subscribers a $20 credit in response to its ongoing standoff with Disney, which has led to several channels going dark on the platform. Affected channels include ESPN, ABC News, and Disney Channel.
In an email to subscribers, the YouTube TV team informed users that they should expect to receive an email in the coming days regarding the credit. Once redeemed, the $20 credit will be applied to their next bill. The email stated, “We know it’s been disappointing to lose Disney content, and we want you to know we deeply appreciate your patience.”
The dispute centers around a missed deadline. YouTube TV and Disney had until October 30 to reach a new agreement concerning Disney’s content on the platform. That deadline has now passed without a deal, though negotiations are reportedly still ongoing.
“We’ve been working in good faith to negotiate a deal with Disney that pays them fairly for their content and returns their programming to YouTube TV,” the YouTube TV team said in the email.
For subscribers who feel the $20 credit does not fully compensate for the weeks without Disney content, YouTube TV suggests pausing the subscription temporarily until the issue is resolved.
