Woman’s Future In-Laws Get ‘Snippy’ When She Refuses to Add a Full-Size Bed to the Home Office She Uses ‘Every Day’

A bride-to-be turned to the Reddit community for support following ongoing tensions with her future in-laws about the setup of her new home. She and her fiancé had just moved into a two-bedroom apartment, and the second room had quickly become her daily workspace. She explained in her post that she uses that room constantly, saying she works from home “4-5 days a week” and keeps her clothes, makeup and filming equipment in the space. “I’m in this room for hours every day,” she wrote as she described why the layout mattered so much to her. She shared that overnight guests were not a frequent occurrence, estimating that they only hosted people “maybe 20 nights a year at most.” Because of that, she said they already owned a “high-quality queen air mattress” that had always worked perfectly. Despite this setup, her future in-laws repeatedly pushed for something more permanent. She noted that they had offered “three separate times” to give the couple a spare mattress and even purchase a frame for it. Each time, her fiancé told them the couple hadn’t decided yet, reminding them they could bring their own mattress whenever they visited. He also told them they could simply “take it back home afterward,” but the suggestion didn’t seem to slow their efforts. According to the poster, the situation escalated when they brought it up again while on speakerphone. She admitted she became “visibly frustrated,” only for her fiancé to tell her not to be “snippy” before assuring her that he would handle it. She pushed back, telling him that the subject “needs to stop being brought up” because she believed his parents were now being inconsiderate. To her, the pressure to turn her workspace into a permanent guest room felt unfair and intrusive. She tried to find a middle ground by suggesting a versatile option that would still allow her to use the room daily. “I’ve suggested getting a daybed instead,” she said, describing how it could function as a couch most days and comfortably sleep guests when needed. She believed this was a reasonable compromise, especially since they also still had the “really good air mattress” available. She even floated the idea of adding a “nice topper” to make that option feel more luxurious for visitors. The bride-to-be emphasized that practicality mattered, given how much time she spent in the room. To her, it made little sense to dedicate the space to guests who were only there a few times a year. Commenters overwhelmingly supported her, with one writing, “NTA. You should recommend a very nice hotel to your future in-laws where they can choose a room with an appropriate bed.” Others echoed the sentiment that her boundaries were appropriate. Another commenter agreed she wasn’t at fault but added a small critique, saying, “The daybed idea sounds like a good plan. However, YATA for telling them they can take a mattress there and then back home.”.
