A woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning in Minneapolis after attempting to run over federal immigration officers with her vehicle during a law enforcement operation, according to the Department of Homeland Security, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, where federal officers were conducting immigration enforcement activity. The City of Minneapolis confirmed the shooting in a post on X, stating that gunfire was reported in the area and urging the public to avoid the scene.

Mayor Jacob Frey also responded to the incident, stating, “To ICE, get the f*ck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.”

Homeland Security officials said the woman attempted to strike officers with her vehicle as tensions escalated during the operation. The Department of Homeland Security described the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism.”

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism,” DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement, and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers,” McLaughlin added.

Video from the scene showed a large group of protesters gathered behind yellow police tape, shouting anti-ICE slogans as officers stood in the roadway. Some protesters appeared to throw snowballs toward law enforcement officers, while others filmed the confrontation on their phones.

Livestream footage aired by Fox 9 showed federal agents standing shoulder to shoulder as crowds continued to shout at them. One person could be heard yelling, “Get the f-k out of our city! We’re not scared of you!”

The video also captured what appeared to be a three-vehicle collision near the scene. A plum-colored SUV, a white sedan, and a dark-red sports car were visible, with the white vehicle sustaining heavy front-end damage. Law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, were seen surrounding the damaged vehicle as part of the investigation.

Photographs taken at the scene showed protesters winding up to throw snowballs at officers, while another image showed a police officer deploying pepper spray against a small group of individuals who appeared to be linking arms to block the roadway.

The shooting occurred amid what officials have described as the largest deployment of immigration enforcement agents to Minneapolis since the start of the second Trump administration. The increased federal presence has drawn protests from activists opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the city.

Minneapolis City Council Member Jason Chavez said on the social media platform Bluesky that Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino responded to the scene following the shooting. Chavez did not provide additional details.

Authorities have not released the identity of the woman who was shot, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone else was injured during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

“This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available,” McLaughlin said.
