White House: Military families turn to food assistance amid Democrat shutdown

The White House Press Secretary has highlighted a growing need for food assistance among military families. There has been a 34 percent surge in the number of families seeking help through food pantries.
Staff members at the Armed Services YMCA food pantry distribution site near Fort Hood, Texas, reported an unprecedented scene. At 5:00 a.m. yesterday, they found a line of military families stretched around the side of the building—a situation they say “has never happened” before. This sharp increase in demand reflects the rising challenges faced by these families.
Leavitt noted that this week alone, the pantry has experienced a 34 percent rise in visitors. The situation underscores the urgent need for support for vulnerable groups.
She also warned that nearly seven million mothers, infants, and low-income families who depend on the government-run food assistance program, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), could be at risk if the program’s funding or content is altered or discontinued at the government’s discretion. This potential jeopardy raises critical concerns about food security for these populations moving forward.
