Ukraine In Position To ‘Fight And WIN” War Against Russia: Trump

Trump Says Ukraine, Backed by the EU, Can Fight and Win Against Russia
Former US President Donald Trump expressed strong support for Ukraine’s ability to reclaim its territory from Russia, stating that Ukraine, with the backing of the European Union, is in a position to win the ongoing conflict.
In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote, “After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia military and economic situation and, after seeing the economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.”
This statement came shortly after Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump also highlighted the severe economic toll the war has taken on Russia. “Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years — a war that should have taken a real military power less than a week to win,” he said. “This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like a paper tiger.”
He added that as Russians experience difficulties such as gasoline shortages and other economic hardships, Ukraine’s spirit and capacity to fight continue to grow stronger. “Ukraine would be able to take back their country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that! Putin and Russia are in BIG economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act,” Trump asserted.
Regarding military support, Trump pledged to continue supplying weapons to NATO, emphasizing that NATO could decide how to best use them.
Reactions from Ukrainian Leadership
Following the meeting, President Zelenskyy told the Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, “Today’s meeting was very good. It’s too early to talk about any specific elements of the meeting, a little later.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, called on the international community to take more decisive action to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children taken to Russia since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. According to her, at the current rate, it could take 50 years for all these children to return home.
She highlighted efforts by an international coalition of 41 countries and the Council of Europe that have successfully returned 1,625 children to Ukraine so far.
European Commission Addresses Russian Provocations
Earlier on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she discussed Russia’s “regular incursions” into European airspace with US President Joe Biden.
“We discussed Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” von der Leyen said in a post on X. “We also addressed the Kremlin’s provocations, including regular incursions into European airspace.”
She pointed out that these incursions are clear attempts by Russia to test the West’s response.
Europe is accelerating its defense efforts to strengthen its eastern flank. “It must act as a shield for both Europe and NATO,” von der Leyen added.
