**How to Place an Obituary in the Pioneer Press**

To place an obituary, please include the information outlined in the checklist below in an email to **[email protected]**. There is no option to submit obituaries through our website. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact our obituary desk at **651-228-5263**.

### General Information Required:
– Your full name
– Address (City, State, Zip Code)
– Phone number
– Alternate phone number (if any)

### Obituary Specifications:
– Name of deceased
– Obituary text
– A photo in JPEG or PDF format is preferred; TIF and other file types are accepted. We will contact you if there are any issues with the submitted photo.
– Ad run dates

*Note:* There is a discount for running the obituary more than one day. This discount must be scheduled on the first run date to apply. If a photo is used, it must be used on both days to qualify for the discount. Contact us for more details.

### Policies

**Verification of Death:**
To publish obituaries, the name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling the arrangements are required. We must contact them during their business hours to verify the death.

If the body has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar program, their phone number is required for verification. Please allow sufficient time for us to make this contact, especially during limited weekend hours.

Alternatively, a death certificate may be provided. Only one of these options—funeral home/cremation society contact or death certificate—is necessary.

**Guestbook and External Websites:**
We do not allow references to other media sources, guestbooks, or obituaries placed elsewhere when submitting an obituary for print and online publication. However, we may include a website for the funeral home or a family email address for contact. Please reach out to us if you have any questions regarding this matter.

### Obituary Process

After your submission, we will fax or email a proof for your review before publication. This proof will include pricing and scheduled publication dates.

Please review the proof carefully and notify us of any errors or changes before the obituary appears in the Pioneer Press, adhering to daily deadlines.

Once published, we cannot be held responsible for errors if changes are requested after final proofing.

**Online updates** to an obituary can be handled through our obituary desk. Contact us for assistance.

### Payment Procedure

Pre-payment is required prior to publication by the specified deadlines.

Once you receive and approve the proof, please call **651-228-5263** with your payment information.

**Payment options:**
– Credit Card: Accepted by phone only (due to PCI regulations)
– EFT: Check by phone (provide routing and account numbers)
– Cash: Accepted at our front counter Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

### Rates

– Minimum charge: $162 for the first 10 lines.
– Each additional line after the first 10 costs $12.20.
– Ads under 10 lines are charged the minimum rate of $162.
– For subsequent run dates, the rate is $8.20 per line, starting with the first line.
– *Example:* 20 lines on the first run date cost $164.
– Each published photo costs $125 per day.
– *Example:* Two photos published on two days equals four photo charges, totaling $500.
