Fostering ‘Belonging’ Through Books and Community Events

Silicon Valley Reads is gearing up for its 2026 event under the theme “Bridges to Belonging,” aiming to spark connection, empathy, and understanding across Santa Clara County. The program features selected books and more than 100 free events designed to foster a sense of community.

The official kickoff will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at De Anza College in Cupertino. This free event will be available both in-person and via live stream, featuring the authors of three featured adult books:

  • The Power of Bridging by John A. Powell – A nonfiction work offering practical strategies to build an inclusive society where everyone feels they belong.
  • Mainline Mama by Keeonna Harris – A memoir navigating motherhood with an incarcerated partner.
  • Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett – A novel exploring connection and community through the eyes of a woman caring for her dying father, who sees the ghost of natural historian Ernest Harold Baynes, among others.

Join Silicon Valley Reads to engage with these powerful stories and participate in events that build bridges toward belonging in our community.
