Stone Cold Steve Austin Is Angry With WWE, Says Ric Flair: “That’s Why Steve Austin Is So Mad”
Ric Flair has recently spoken out about Stone Cold Steve Austin and the ongoing issues between the wrestling legend and WWE. According to Flair, Austin is angry with WWE over their handling of his trademark and the lack of recognition for everything he contributed to the company.
Stone Cold Steve Austin has not been heavily involved with WWE programming since stepping away from the ring. While he has made occasional appearances and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for his iconic match against Bret Hart, Austin has largely kept a low profile. Recently, reports have surfaced that he will be returning for his popular Broken Skull Sessions podcast. However, behind the scenes, tensions remain.
Speaking on the podcast *Games with Names*, Ric Flair revealed that the root of Austin’s frustration lies in WWE’s refusal to relinquish the trademark to the “Stone Cold” name. Flair explained, “That’s why Steve Austin is so mad. They will never give up Stone Cold.”
Flair also shared insight into Austin’s current lifestyle. According to the wrestling legend, Austin has moved away from Hollywood and the wrestling spotlight to focus on a quieter life. “All Steve wants to do is hunt and fish. He just built a ranch about 40 miles out of Tahoe. Moved out of LA. I think he kept his place here, but he moved there full time,” Flair said.
Moreover, Flair touched on Austin’s contributions to WWE’s success, pointing out that Austin was instrumental in helping the company go public and made significant money in the process. Despite this, Austin feels undervalued, particularly when it comes to the trademark issue. “Steve basically is the one that took them public. He made a lot of money, but not nearly enough. And then not giving him his trademark? So it’s who knows. Really, really hard to get intellectual property,” Flair added.
Flair also speculated on what might have been if Austin had not been forced to retire early. Due to neck issues, Austin had to retire at around 39 years old. Flair reflected on how Austin could have continued to grow his legacy if not for the injury. “Do you know, Steve had to quit when he was 39 years old or something because he broke his neck? Can you imagine if he’d been able to wrestle till he was 50 or something? My God,” he said.
As Stone Cold Steve Austin prepares to return to his podcast, fans are eager to see if he will address these issues himself and what this means for his relationship with WWE moving forward.
