The Metro Community Relations staff has scheduled a virtual community meeting on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming construction activities along the I-5 freeway. This meeting is open to all residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and North Los Angeles County.

The virtual meeting for the Metro I-5 North County Enhancement Project is set to begin at 6 p.m. The project, which was approved with a total budget of $679.4 million, began in the Santa Clarita Valley in 2021. During the meeting, project management staff will provide an overview of the project and outline the timeline for the upcoming construction activities, which are expected to span two to three months.

The Metro I-5 North County Enhancement Project aims to improve freeway operations and safety, focusing on better movement between freight and passenger vehicles. Key improvements will include:

– Adding an additional carpool lane in each direction
– Extending truck lanes by two miles
– Enhancing auxiliary lanes
– Upgrading seven bridges, including replacing the Weldon Canyon Bridge

These enhancements will be implemented from Newhall Pass to just south of Parker Road in Castaic.

The virtual community meeting is designed to address questions and concerns from Santa Clarita and North Los Angeles residents regarding the construction activities and how these might impact their commutes.
