There’s been a notable hitch in Rockstar Games’ plans this week as the developer continues to work on Grand Theft Auto 6. Recently, Rockstar laid off over 30 employees. While the company claims these layoffs were due to “gross misconduct,” a labor group has alleged that the employees were cut because of union activity.

Bloomberg first reported on the alleged layoffs before the weekend, sharing details that between 30 and 40 people were terminated. Following this, the IWGB Game Workers group released a statement on social media denouncing Rockstar’s actions and providing more information about the situation.

Most of the gaming world has been eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6, with Rockstar aiming for a May 2026 release. The game has already experienced multiple delays, and this recent controversy could potentially cause further setbacks—or at least become a reason cited for any future delays.
