Red Chillies hits back at Sameer Wankhede’s plea against The Ba***ds of Bollywood; says his image was already subjected to scrutiny

**Red Chillies Entertainment Responds to Sameer Wankhede’s Defamation Suit Over Netflix’s *The Ba***ds of Bollywood***
Red Chillies Entertainment has filed its official reply to Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit concerning the Netflix show *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, which the former NCB officer claims was designed to tarnish his reputation.
Wankhede, known for leading the 2021 drugs case involving Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, approached the court alleging that the series portrayed a character bearing resemblance to him in both appearance and mannerisms.
### Red Chillies’ Rebuttal: Satire and Creative Freedom
In its response, Red Chillies Entertainment emphasized that *The Ba***ds of Bollywood* is a Bollywood satire, with all characters depicted using deliberately exaggerated traits to enhance the humour. The production house argued that Wankhede’s complaint was an attempt to curtail artistic and creative freedom, describing his stance as “hypersensitivity.”
The filing also highlighted that Wankhede’s image had already been subjected to extensive public scrutiny well before the show’s release. According to the production company, the former officer’s involvement in the Aryan Khan case had drawn widespread criticism and ridicule across news outlets, social media discussions, and public commentary at the time.
### Defense Highlights Prior Public Scrutiny
Red Chillies stated that such materials clearly demonstrated Wankhede’s reputation had already been impacted earlier, and that the lawsuit aims to silence satirical portrayals which fall under the protection of creative expression.
Represented by senior advocates Neeraj Kishan Kaul and Shyel Trehan, the production company requested the court to allow the show to remain intact. They argued that removing the contested scene would disrupt the narrative flow of the series.
The makers further clarified that the show does not directly name or reference Sameer Wankhede. Instead, the police officer character is portrayed as an “overzealous” cop — a common trope used in dark comedies and satires.
### Case Adjourned; Further Proceedings Scheduled
The case, which was heard before Justice Purushindra Kumar on Thursday, has been adjourned to November 10 for further proceedings.
*The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, streaming on Netflix, has attracted attention for its unapologetically sharp commentary on celebrity culture, media frenzy, and the moral ambiguities within the film industry. These themes continue to ignite debate over where the line between satire and defamation should be drawn.
