Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship system-on-chip (SoC) for Android smartphones—the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Powered by the third-generation Oryon CPU, Qualcomm claims this is the fastest mobile CPU ever made. Alongside the upgraded CPU, the new chipset features an updated Adreno GPU architecture and a Hexagon NPU, promising significant improvements in overall performance.
### Major Performance Boost
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers impressive enhancements across CPU, GPU, and AI processing. Qualcomm states the chip offers a 20% increase in CPU performance, a 23% improvement in GPU rendering, and a remarkable 37% boost in AI processing speed. These advancements are designed to enhance everyday smartphone experiences with faster multitasking, smoother app switching, and longer gaming sessions thanks to improved efficiency.
### Advanced AI Capabilities
One of the standout features of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is its on-device “agentic AI.” This technology enables digital assistants to learn from user behavior, process information in real time, and proactively assist across apps. Importantly, all AI processing happens on-device, ensuring that users’ personal data remains private and secure.
### Enhanced Videography Features
Qualcomm has also introduced professional-grade video production capabilities to smartphones with support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec—marking a first for mobile platforms. Combined with AI-powered imaging tools, this allows creators greater control over video capture and post-production editing directly from their devices.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will debut in upcoming flagship smartphones from several leading manufacturers, including Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus, among others—setting a new standard for mobile performance and innovation.
