Pop/Dance Music Star Injured, Performs Concert in Wheelchair and on Crutches

One of the most electrifying live acts touring today is facing a physical setback, but the group isn’t letting it slow them down. Janet Planet, one of the vocalists of the pop/dance act Confidence Man, recently broke her ankle. As the band showed on Instagram, fans in attendance for the band’s October 10 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival described it as “not your usual Confidence Man show.”
Confidence Man’s live act is known for its fun and energetic choreography, featuring Janet (a.k.a. Grace Stephenson) and her bandmate, “brother” Sugar Bones (Aidan Moore). They are supported by a veiled backing band consisting of DJ Reggie Goodchild (Lewis Stephenson) and drummer Clarence McGuffie.
However, with Janet injured, the band had to change things up for their Austin, Texas, performance. Sugar pushed a boot-clad Janet around the stage in a wheelchair as she did her best to keep the crowd hyped throughout the show. Later, she traded the wheelchair for a set of crutches and performed some of the band’s songs—including “Holiday” and “ALL MY PEOPLE”—while carefully hopping around the stage.
Fans loved how Confidence Man persevered despite the setback. One fan on Instagram praised Janet as the “hardest working woman in music,” while another called her “effortlessly iconic.” Another fan wrote, “Never getting over this set lol,” accompanied by a fire emoji.
After the Austin City Limits set, Janet underwent “localized cryotherapy and red light” treatment from a nearby provider to aid her recovery.
### Confidence Man Discuss Janet Planet’s Injury
Janet and Sugar talked about the injury during a BBC interview, noting this was the group’s first major injury. Given their wild performance style, you might expect more injuries, but aside from some shoulder and hand issues Sugar experienced, they hadn’t been immobilized like this before.
“It’s my first injury,” Janet said, comparing her situation to Sugar’s previous setbacks. “No offense to Sugar, but I need my ankles a lot!”
We wish Janet Planet a speedy and smooth recovery as she continues to bring energy and excitement to every Confidence Man performance.
