A flight bound for Los Angeles International Airport on Monday evening was diverted after a communication issues led pilots to believe there was an attempted breach of the cockpit, officials said.

The American Airlines flight departed from Eppley Airfield in Omaha around 4:40 p.m. but returned to the airport about 20 minutes later for an unknown reason, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

The pilot reportedly declared an emergency and turned the plane around after hearing knocking on the cockpit door and being unable to reach the cabin crew. It was later determined that the knocking was from the cabin crew trying to communicate with the pilots, officials confirmed.

Omaha airport officials later clarified in a social media statement that there “was no security related incident at Eppley Airfield this evening.”
