FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Philip Zinckernagel scored a crucial goal for the Chicago Fire on Saturday night, helping the team secure a wild 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution in the regular season finale for both sides.

With the tie, No. 8 Chicago (15-11-8) will host ninth-seeded Orlando in the Eastern Conference’s Wild Card match when the MLS Cup playoffs begin on Wednesday.

The match featured dramatic late moments. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Dor Turgeman flicked a header from near the penalty spot into the net, following a free kick played into the area by Carles Gil, to give New England (9-16-9) a 2-1 lead.

However, just a couple of minutes later, Joel Waterman ran onto a loose ball along the left end line and attempted a first-touch shot that was unintentionally redirected into the net by Turgeman for an own goal, leveling the score and capping the scoring.

The Revolution opened the scoring in the very first minute when Alhassan Yusuf dispossessed the Fire’s Dje D’Avilla at the top of the penalty area. Yusuf then chipped a delicate shot over goalkeeper Chris Brady and inside the back post to make it 1-0.

Chicago Fire’s Zinckernagel leveled the match in the 82nd minute with a rising first-touch finish, expertly fed by Hugo Cuypers.

The intense matchup concluded in a 2-2 draw, setting the stage for Chicago’s upcoming playoff battle.
