Over 220 Rockstar employees send letters to studio demanding reinstatement of fired staff

Rockstar Games has found itself embroiled in controversy following the recent firing of approximately 30 employees. The company asserts that these employees were dismissed due to “gross behavior” and the unauthorized leaking of confidential company materials. However, the IWGB Game Workers Union alleges that Rockstar’s actions are part of a union-busting effort.

According to the union, around 220 current Rockstar employees, all members of the IWGB Game Workers Union, have signed letters demanding the reinstatement of the 31 fired workers. The union has shared details of its ongoing protest efforts on its official website, emphasizing the collective support for those impacted.

The IWGB Game Workers Union has also announced plans for further demonstrations in London and Paris, scheduled for November 14 and November 18, respectively. These protests will continue as long as the affected employees remain out of work.

Rockstar Games maintains that it has acted appropriately amid the controversy. The company initially stated that the firings were due to employees sharing confidential company materials on an unauthorized Discord server. However, the IWGB has challenged this claim, citing anonymous Rockstar employees who have provided additional insights suggesting low morale and targeted dismissals within the studio.

Amid these tensions, Rockstar has postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to November. While the company has not explicitly linked the delay to the ongoing dispute, many observers believe the controversy is likely a significant factor behind the decision.
