**Dr. Howard Corwin, 92, Beloved Psychiatrist and Environmentalist, Passes Away**

PORTLAND — Surrounded by those he loved, Dr. Howard Corwin of Falmouth and Bridgton, Maine, and Naples, Florida, passed away on October 5, 2025, in Portland, just four days before his 93rd birthday.

He is survived by his life partner, Lois Lowry; his son, Erik, daughter-in-law, Manal Corwin, and their children Amanda, Adam, Alexander, and Aidan; his son, Bruce Corwin, and his children Dillon and Austin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His beloved wife, Jeannette Hatfield Corwin, and his son, Thomas George Corwin, predeceased him in 2012 and 1988, respectively.

Dr. Corwin grew up in New Jersey and was valedictorian of his class at Millburn High School. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1954, where he was an editor of the Harvard Crimson, and earned his medical degree cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1958.

He served his country with honor on active duty as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1963 to 1965.

With a career spanning more than thirty years in private psychiatric practice, Dr. Corwin was also deeply involved in medical education. He served on the Harvard Medical School faculty, was an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine, and worked as a Training and Supervisory Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute.

A passionate environmentalist, Dr. Corwin was a founding member of the Greater Lovell Land Trust, established to protect the Kezar Lake watershed in Lovell, Maine. He led the organization for many years and continued to work tirelessly for environmental causes throughout his life.

Dr. Corwin enjoyed golf, skiing, swimming — especially in his beloved Kezar Lake — Harvard sports, classical music, engaging discussions on current events, and cherished spending time with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dr. Corwin’s name to the International Thyroid Oncology Group or the Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival, P.O. Box 544, Harrison, ME 04040.
