The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced a special Muhurat Trading session to celebrate Diwali. This year, the session will be held on October 21, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM. Notably, the pre-opening session is scheduled from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM, differing from the usual evening timing.

### What is Muhurat Trading?

Muhurat Trading marks the beginning of a new Samvat, or Hindu calendar year. It is widely believed that trading during this auspicious hour brings prosperity and financial growth to investors and stakeholders.

### Trading Segments Covered

The Muhurat Trading session will encompass multiple market segments, including equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures & options, and securities lending & borrowing (SLB). This makes it a comprehensive event covering a broad spectrum of investment opportunities.

### Stock Market Closure on Diwali

The stock market will remain closed for regular trading on Diwali, except for this special one-hour session. All trades conducted during Muhurat Trading are binding, resulting in settlement obligations. Despite its brief duration, the session is carried out with full formality and treated as a regular trading day.

Many investors consider it auspicious to invest during Muhurat Trading, often buying shares for long-term holding or performing this as part of family rituals.

### Historical Market Trends During Muhurat Trading

Historically, Muhurat Trading sessions have delivered positive returns even though trading volumes tend to be relatively low. Over the past 16 years, the indices have ended in the green in 13 sessions, reflecting the favorable trend this auspicious period brings to the markets.

Last year, the session closed on a strong note. The Sensex gained 335 points (up 0.42%) to finish at 79,724, while the Nifty rose 99 points (up 0.41%) to end at 24,304.
