**Gwalior Officials Seize 860 Sacks of Missing Government Wheat Worth Over Rs 11 Lakh**

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant recovery, officials have seized 860 sacks of government wheat valued at Rs 11,70,238 from a warehouse in Transport Nagar, Gwalior. The stock had gone missing from the distribution system three months prior.

The wheat, weighing a total of 435.71 quintals, was originally transported from the Golwar Warehouse in Raisen to Gwalior in June. The truck driver responsible for the delivery, Shiv Singh Rathore, was supposed to unload the wheat at the designated Sharmishtha Warehouse located on Jhansi Bypass.

However, Rathore diverted the entire consignment to his own warehouse in Transport Nagar instead. What is more alarming is that neither Raisen nor Gwalior Civil Supplies Corporation officials took any action or launched an investigation into the missing wheat consignment during the three-month period.

The issue only surfaced when Rathore himself approached Food Supply Department officials, claiming he was holding the wheat as he had not yet received his freight payment. Following his complaint, District Supply Controller Arvind Bhadoria and other officials conducted a raid and seized the wheat.

The seized stock was found stored in government-issued gunny bags, with all official tags and symbols intact, confirming its authenticity.

This incident came to light during a period of severe wheat shortage in May and June, a time when beneficiaries were reportedly waiting for days at distribution centres to receive their rations.

The transportation process involved multiple contractors. While Maheshwari Road Lines had the primary supply contract, they sub-contracted the work to Salim Khan’s Shine Road Lines, who then hired Rathore for the actual transportation.

Investigations have been launched both in Gwalior and Raisen to uncover how such a large quantity of government wheat remained unaccounted for months, especially amid critical shortage conditions.

Authorities hope the inquiry will shed light on the lapses in the distribution chain and ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
