MCSG charters Pacific Student Alliance
On Thursday, Nov. 13, Macalester College Student Government (MCSG) met in the Weyerhaeuser Boardroom and unanimously voted to charter the Pacific Student Alliance (PSA). Student Organizations Committee (SOC) Chair Liv Peterson ’27 introduced the charter of PSA, which aims to promote meaningful opportunities for both Pacific Islander-identifying and non-identifying students to learn about, engage with and celebrate Pacific Islander culture. Board member Sixca Michael ’27 emphasized the need for greater Pacific Islander representation at Macalester. The organization was formed to “create a community of belonging for Pacific Islander students, as well as non Pacific Islander students from the Pacific Islands,” Michael said. PSA aims to address a gap in existing cultural spaces and support students who may otherwise feel underrepresented and seek stronger visibility across campus life. MCSG passed the charter with 18 in favor, and none opposed.
