John Dickerson Says He’s Leaving CBS News At the End of the Year: Show Will Be Revamped by Bari Weiss in Right Turn
The first head under Bari Weiss has rolled. John Dickerson announced that he’s leaving CBS News after 16 years, with his departure set for the end of the year.
Dickerson has been co-anchoring *The CBS Evening News* alongside Maurice DuBois since taking over from Norah O’Donnell. He once hosted *Face the Nation* and has served as a versatile and valuable player at CBS. His departure from the company altogether is seen by many as a troubling sign.
Blogger Bari Weiss is expected to reshape the news division with a rightward shift. Rumors are already circulating that she plans to bring Bret Baier on board, potentially replacing Maurice DuBois. Though if DuBois does leave, he might return to Channel 2 in New York, where he is highly regarded. Years ago, Chris Wragge made a similar move.
Weiss, a conservative lesbian, was hired by the new owners of Paramount with the apparent goal of transforming—and some say dismantling—the network’s existing culture. The current situation has drawn comparisons to the political changes seen during Trump’s time in the White House East Wing.
Will things get worse? Many believe the answer is yes, and quickly.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Dickerson wrote:
> “Local news: At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, sixteen years after I sat in as Face the Nation anchor for the first time. I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me—the work, the audience’s attention, and the honor of being a part of the network’s history—and I am grateful for my dear colleagues who’ve made me a better journalist and a better human. I will miss you.”
