Jingle Bell Run returns to New Baltimore Dec. 7
The Jingle Bell Run returns to New Baltimore for its 44th year Dec. 7. This year’s event will feature a 5k run, one-mile fun walk and a golf cart slow roll. The event always takes place in New Baltimore, but this year features a slightly different route for the race to end at Walter and Mary Burke Park, which is located at 36300 Front Street in Downtown New Baltimore. Previously, the race team operated out of the library, but this year the festivities will take place at the park “It’s just a very festive event. It’s been a staple of events around in New Baltimore and it’s a great time for everybody, whether you’re competing in the race, taking a walk or just hanging out with friends at the event,” said Adam Abraham, director of New Baltimore parks and recreation. Aside from the running, walking and golf cart rolling, Abraham said runners and spectators alike will also have the opportunity to visit with Santa and enjoy hot cocoa and other festive treats. He said people dress up for the race in holiday-themed costumes. Custom Christmas sweatshirts, which can be purchased through the pre-registration or at the event, are available. Pre-registration is open until the end of the day Nov. 24, but same-day registration at the event is also allowed. Standard registration costs $25 for the 5k run and $20 for the one-mile walk. Late and day-of registration costs $35 for the 5k run or $20 for the one-mile walk. Abraham said the funds from the race, which was initiated in the 1980s by the Anchor Bay High School DECA club before being handed off to the city, go toward the city’s park improvement program. Abraham said as of earlier this week there were 646 people registered for the 5k and 196 signed up for the one-mile walk. He said he anticipates more than 1, 000 people will show up to the event, but that the amount of people who register to run/walk usually depends on the weather. The slow roll starts at 2: 55 p. m. Dec. 7, the one-mile walk starts at 3 p. m. and the run starts at 3: 15 p. m.
