Jabalpur Rat Bite Case: ₹50K Penalty On Cleaning Company For Negligence In Pest Control After Two Patients Bitten

**Jabalpur Medical College Imposes ₹50,000 Fine on HLL Infra Tech Services for Negligence in Pest Control**
Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College has imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on HLL Infra Tech Services Limited due to negligence in cleaning and pest control work. This decision follows a disturbing incident where two patients and an attendant were allegedly bitten by rats in the hospital’s mental illness department.
The order was issued by the hospital superintendent, Dr. Arvind Sharma, after a serious case where a patient’s foot was bitten by rats within the hospital premises. In response to the incident, District Collector Raghvendra Singh visited the medical college on Tuesday night and personally inspected the psychiatry department.
Expressing strong displeasure over the situation, the collector directed the hospital superintendent to take strict action against those responsible for the lapses. According to the official order, the penalty amount will be deducted from the company’s pending payments.
Despite repeated oral and written instructions for regular cleaning, the inspection revealed garbage accumulated near the psychiatry department. Furthermore, rat trap plates were found placed at only one location, and the quantity of pest control medicines available was insufficient.
Dr. Arvind Sharma highlighted that such negligence has severely harmed the image of the hospital. He also instructed the company’s manager to take disciplinary measures against the staff responsible for pest control and to ensure diligent supervision moving forward.
Additionally, the company has been asked to submit an immediate explanation addressing the issue.
The hospital administration emphasizes that maintaining a clean and safe environment is paramount to patient care and will continue to enforce strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
