India more accessible than EU, says Dutch chip company
**ASML Executive Highlights Greater Accessibility of Indian Government Compared to EU Policymakers**
*NEW DELHI:* A senior executive from Dutch semiconductor machinery company ASML has pointed out that European Union institutions are often difficult for European companies to access, whereas the Indian government offers more time and patient consideration.
Speaking at the Competitive Europe summit in Brussels, organized by the digital platform Politico, Frank Heemskerk, Executive Vice President of Global Public Affairs at ASML, noted the challenges in securing meetings with top European policymakers. He specifically mentioned the difficulty of engaging with key figures such as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, stating, “It’s not always easy.”
Heemskerk further added, “It’s easier to get a meeting with a senior official in the White House than to get a meeting with a commissioner.”
The comments came in the context of ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet recently holding a two-hour meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Heemskerk, after about an hour and a half of listening, the Prime Minister remarked, “You’re too friendly. Tell me what we can do better.”
This candid interaction underscores India’s approach to engaging directly with global industry leaders—a practice highly valued by companies looking to invest and collaborate.
Heemskerk suggested that European policymakers would benefit from taking note of such exchanges, emphasizing that “political leaders should sit down with the companies that are investing money.”
This comparison highlights the importance of open and accessible dialogue between governments and industry players in driving innovation and economic growth.
