**FEMA Temporarily Extends Grace Period for National Flood Insurance Program Policy Renewals**

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) wants Nebraskans to be aware that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has temporarily extended the standard 30-day grace period for policyholders to pay for their expired National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies.

Policyholders whose NFIP policies expired on or after October 1, 2025, now have until January 15, 2026, to submit their renewal payments. It is important to note that policies with grace periods extending beyond January 15, 2026, will follow the normal 30-day grace period and are not included in this extension.

While FEMA administers the NFIP, the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) functions as the state’s NFIP coordinating office. In this capacity, DWEE’s Floodplain Management Division acts as a liaison between FEMA and Nebraska communities to share vital floodplain management information.

Policyholders who believe their policy may be affected should contact their flood insurance agent as soon as possible to confirm their renewal deadlines.
