Jim Ross Recently Accused of Racism by D-Von Dudley: Vince Russo Weighs In

WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley recently accused legendary commentator Jim Ross of racism. The controversy resurfaced during a discussion on the latest episode of *Writing with Russo*, hosted by Dr. Chris Featherstone, where former WWE writer Vince Russo shared his perspective on the matter.

### D-Von Dudley’s Claims of Racism in WWE

D-Von Dudley spoke candidly about his experiences with racism in WWE during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He described the WWE backstage environment as being like a “white man’s business,” suggesting that Black wrestlers were often unable to speak up for themselves. Notably, D-Von clarified that he did not encounter the same racism during his time in ECW.

During the interview, D-Von Dudley confirmed that Jim Ross was the person he accused of making racist remarks. Speaking to Duke LovesWrasslin, he said:

> “Did I come out and say ten-gallon hat? Yes. Did Maven let the cat out of the bag? Yes. Was it JR? Yes. I did have a problem with JR back then. I didn’t know why.” [7:45–7:58]

While it appears that D-Von and Jim Ross did not have ongoing issues afterward, this remains one of the most significant accusations against JR. Jim Ross is widely revered as one of wrestling’s greatest non-wrestling figures, holding critical backstage and on-air roles throughout his WWE career. His reputation is so esteemed that when WWE parted ways with him at the turn of the decade, Tony Khan wasted no time in bringing him into AEW.

### Vince Russo’s Take on the Situation

On *Writing with Russo*, Vince Russo recounted an incident from their time together in TNA following the breakup of The Dudley Boyz. He explained that while Bubba Ray Dudley’s career was flourishing, D-Von initially struggled to get the same push. Russo recounted their conversation:

> “That’s exactly what happened. Bubba worked his butt off and D-Von did nothing. He [D-Von] came and asked me, ‘Vince, what’s the deal? Why is Bubba getting a push and I’m not?’ And I said, ‘D-Von, look at you and look at him. Look at the work he’s put in.’ As soon as I said that, there was no argument; he went right to work. You could see the change, and we started giving D-Von the push.”

Russo also addressed the possibility that Jim Ross might have said something racist:

> “Somebody can say something you perceive the wrong way, or maybe JR said something that was straight out racist. I didn’t see that in JR, personally.”
