Former President Donald Trump has criticized Bad Bunny’s selection as the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer — despite claiming he had never heard of the Puerto Rican star.
RadarOnline.com can reveal that the 79-year-old president branded the musician’s booking as “absolutely ridiculous,” responding amid Bad Bunny’s recent criticism of both Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Never Heard Of Him!”
Trump said: “I never heard of him, I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s like, crazy.” He also expressed frustration that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was attributing the decision to “some promoter they hired.”
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous,” Trump added, before returning to his longstanding complaint that the league’s new kickoff rules are ruining the sport.
Bad Bunny’s Response on Saturday Night Live
Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martinez, hosted Saturday Night Live last week. During his opening monologue, he addressed his critics directly.
“You might not know this but I’m doing the Super Bowl halftime show and I’m very happy and I think everyone is happy about it — even Fox News,” the 31-year-old musician said.
A heavily edited clip then played, cleverly stitching together comments from various Fox anchors and pundits so that they appeared to say: “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president.”
“Thank you. Wow, thank you. But really, I am very excited to be doing the Super Bowl and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” he continued.
The Puerto Rican-born artist then spoke in Spanish for several seconds before concluding his monologue with a playful challenge: “If you did not understand what I just said… you have four months to learn!”
Bad Bunny’s Message to His Critics
In the Spanish segment, Bad Bunny took another jab at his detractors and expressed gratitude to those who helped pave the way for him.
“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” he said. “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
Concerns About Touring in the U.S.
Bad Bunny addressed his decision to limit his mainland U.S. appearances just moments before the NFL officially announced his Super Bowl performance.
“I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States,” the rapper tweeted in Spanish.
He previously stated he canceled plans to tour the U.S. over fears that his fans could be targeted by ICE agents waiting “outside” his concerts.
MAGA Reaction and Corey Lewandowski’s Criticism
RadarOnline.com revealed that Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl booking sparked an uproar within MAGA circles. Trump’s advisor Corey Lewandowski criticized the NFL’s decision and the presence of agents at the nation’s biggest event.
“It’s so shameful they picked someone who seems to hate America,” Lewandowski said. “There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find and deport you. That is a very real situation.”
