Dodgers fans can’t believe epic Game 7 World Series comeback
The Los Angeles Dodgers were on the brink of elimination in the 2025 World Series. The Toronto Blue Jays had taken a 3-2 lead after winning two of three games in Los Angeles. Facing a daunting challenge, the Dodgers needed to win back-to-back road games at a raucous Rogers Centre to stay alive.
On Friday, Los Angeles held on for a 3-1 victory in Game 6, forcing a winner-take-all World Series finale. Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw 96 pitches in that crucial game, earning the win. The second-year starter vowed to be ready for Game 7 if called upon.
As it turned out, the Dodgers would indeed need Yamamoto in Saturday’s wild comeback win.
### Dodgers Comeback to Repeat as World Series Champs
Game 7 saw the Blue Jays appearing to be in control. Toronto held a 4-3 lead with closer Jeff Hoffman on the mound, seeking his first World Series save. However, Miguel Rojas changed the momentum by belting a game-tying solo homer to left field.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Blake Snell ran into trouble, prompting Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to call on Yamamoto. The All-Star righty worked out of a bases-loaded jam, sending the game into extra innings.
Then, with two outs in the top of the 11th inning, Will Smith hit the go-ahead home run, putting the Dodgers ahead 5-4.
Roberts had the option to call on rookies Roki Sasaki or Blake Treinen to close the game in the bottom of the 11th. But the veteran manager stuck with Yamamoto. LA’s ace held firm, working around a double and a walk before inducing a game-ending ground out from Alejandro Kirk.
Yamamoto threw 34 pitches in Game 7, just one day after throwing 96, totaling an incredible 130 pitches in a 24-hour period. He earned his second straight World Series win and his third victory overall in the 2025 Fall Classic.
### Series MVP and Fan Reactions
Yamamoto was rightfully awarded the World Series MVP for his incredible effort as the Dodgers won the championship and repeated as World Series champs.
Fans and analysts alike praised his performance. ALL_IN_100 wrote, “Ya’ll better get started on Yamamoto’s statue right now!” Meanwhile, DustinDKD added, “Back to back World Series Champions and Clayton Kershaw gets to retire as a world champion! What a moment and what a team! I’m so dang happy! Yoshinobu Yamamoto just put one of the best playoff runs we’ll ever see!”
The 2025 World Series will be remembered for the Dodgers’ resilience, the emergence of Yamamoto as a postseason hero, and a dramatic finish that capped off an unforgettable season.
