Disney Channel icons seemingly feud over ‘toxic’ mom group
Disney Channel icon Ashley Tisdale recently called out a group of fellow moms for “toxic” behavior, and now Hilary Duff’s husband is getting involved.
In a recent essay for The Cut, Tisdale, who rose to prominence as Maddie Fitzpatrick on *The Suite Life of Zack & Cody* (2005–2008), recalled joining a group of young moms after the birth of her first daughter. The New Jersey native claimed that the other women in the group made a habit of excluding her from events.
“It seemed that this group had a pattern of leaving someone out. And that someone had become me,” Tisdale, 40, wrote. “Here I was sitting alone one night after getting my daughter to bed, thinking, ‘Maybe I’m not cool enough?’ All of a sudden, I was in high school again, feeling totally lost as to what I was doing ‘wrong’ to be left out.”
The actress eventually sent a group text to the other women, saying the dynamic had become “too high school” for her taste.
“It didn’t exactly go over well. Some of the others tried to smooth things over. One sent flowers, then ignored me when I thanked her for them,” Tisdale wrote. “To be clear, I have never considered the moms to be bad people. (Maybe one.) But I do think our group dynamic stopped being healthy and positive for me, anyway.”
Tisdale didn’t name names in the essay, but the internet quickly speculated that she was referring to her celebrity group of mom friends that includes Hilary Duff, actress Mandy Moore, and singer Meghan Trainor.
TMZ reported that Tisdale’s representative denied the rumors, but Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, later added fuel to the fire.
Koma, who has been married to Duff since 2019, shared a sarcastic post making fun of Tisdale’s essay on Tuesday, January 6. “Read my new interview with @thecut,” he wrote alongside the post.
Christy Carlson Romano, who starred alongside Duff in the 2003 Disney Channel Original Movie *Cadet Kelly*, also weighed in. “Celeb mom drama is wild to watch unfold from outside the group,” Carlson Romano wrote alongside an Instagram video of herself sipping a soda in a jacuzzi. “Minding my business,” she added in the caption.
Duff, who played the titular role in the Disney Channel series *Lizzie McGuire* from 2001 to 2004, has yet to address Tisdale’s essay or her husband’s post. NJ.com reached out to both Duff and Tisdale for comment.
Family details: Duff shares daughters Banks, 7, Mae, 4, and Townes, 20 months, with Matthew Koma. She also shares son Luca, 13, with her ex-husband, Mike Comrie.
Tisdale, meanwhile, shares daughters Jupiter, 4, and Emerson, 16 months, with her husband Jordan French.
