Dinesh Vijan’s Thamma becomes the MOST EXPENSIVE film of Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe; Rs. 145 crores bet on Ayushmann & Rashmika!

Dinesh Vijan has established himself as one of the most successful producers in the Indian film industry in the post-COVID era, finding success with mid-budget films that do not rely on big stars. His upcoming project, *Thamma*, slated for release during Diwali 2025, is a highly anticipated follow-up to his Independence Day 2024 blockbuster *Stree 2*.
According to reliable sources, *Thamma* is set to become the most expensive film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. “*Thamma* is the most expensive and ambitious film of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. With internationally reputed VFX companies working on it, the final budget is around Rs. 125 crores, excluding print and publicity costs, which are estimated to be around Rs. 20 crores. This brings the total landing cost to approximately Rs. 145 crores,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The source further revealed that *Thamma* has surpassed *Stree 2* in terms of budget. “*Stree 2* was made with a budget of Rs. 125 crores, including print and publicity. *Thamma* exceeds this by about Rs. 20 crores. Producer Dinesh Vijan is banking on stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna to draw audiences. He strongly believes in the power of content, which has motivated him to invest such a significant amount. Now, he is hopeful that the lead actors will attract viewers on opening day,” the source added.
This is not the first time Dinesh Vijan has taken a financial risk with a large-scale film. He previously produced *Chhapaak* starring Vicky Kaushal, which many considered a risky business decision at the time. However, the film performed well, and so did Vicky Kaushal. Buoyed by this success, Vijan is confident that *Thamma* and its lead actors will deliver a similar performance this Diwali, especially given its positioning as his most prestigious universe yet.
*Thamma* is scheduled for release on October 21, 2025. Industry reports indicate that distributors have demanded up to 70 percent of the total screenings across India, highlighting the high expectations for the film.
