Veteran striker Denis Puric of Canada and Bosnia is widely recognized in combat sports for one of the most memorable catchphrases in the industry. Known as “The Bosnian Menace,” Puric is synonymous with his signature sign-off, “watch it freaks!”, which he frequently uses to conclude his interviews.

According to the 40-year-old fighter, fans often ask him about the origin of this iconic slogan. In an interview with the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Puric revealed that the phrase wasn’t originally his own.

“Oh man, that’s a long story. Basically, we were working at this one place, and there was a janitor in the house. He was cleaning up, and the kids would always be walking through, and he would be like, ‘Watch it, freaks.’ It was just so catchy, so we started doing it,” Puric explained.

Puric even asked the janitor for permission to use the catchphrase, and the custodian agreed. “I was like, you know what, I’m going to use this when I get to these big events. I’m going to start using that in my fighting. He’s like, yeah, use it. That’s fine. So it just came out, this kid, this guy, his name was Benz. He was a janitor at the gym, and the kids were in the way, and he would just walk by like ‘Watch it, you freaks.’ That’s how it came by,” he added.

Puric is gearing up for a high-stakes flyweight kickboxing showdown against Takeru Segawa at ONE 173: Superbon vs Noiri, scheduled for November 16. Despite a recent string of losses, “The Bosnian Menace” remains confident he can get back on the winning track.

Puric plans to capitalize on Takeru, also known as the “Natural Born Krusher,” and his perceived defensive vulnerabilities. “I just need to land a nice shot, and I think he’s going to be wobbled, at least to the point where I can finish the fight. He’s not the kind of fighter who goes in there and protects himself. He is quite open. I see openings,” Puric told ONE Championship.
