Delhi: SAU student allegedly sexually assaulted on campus, sparking protests

A woman student of South Asian University (SAU) was allegedly sexually assaulted on campus, triggering protests by students.
The student was found injured, with her clothes torn, on campus on Monday, a day after she was reported missing, police said on Tuesday.
SAU condemned the incident “in the strongest terms” and affirmed that it stands with its students.
An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan. He added that the student was found near the university auditorium after a search within the campus. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for a medical examination and is currently being counselled.
According to the student’s statement to the police, she was pulled by four people near the auditorium.
As news of the alleged sexual assault broke on Monday evening, students gathered at the administrative block, accusing the university of insensitivity and delay in informing the police. They staged a sit-in protest that lasted over eight hours.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, SAU assured students of its full support.
