The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning for parts of Maharashtra, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 3 to 7. The alert is particularly for the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

### Weather and Wind Conditions

Wind speeds along the north Maharashtra coast are expected to reach 45-55 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h between October 3 and 5. The IMD has also warned of very rough to high sea conditions during this period.

### Advisory for Fishermen

Fishermen in the region have been strongly advised against venturing into the sea until October 5 due to the turbulent conditions caused by the cyclone’s outer bands.

### Expected Rainfall and Impact

Heavy rainfall is predicted in parts of Maharashtra, especially in East Vidarbha and Marathwada. This may result in flooding in low-lying areas of North Konkan, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant.

### Government Response and Disaster Management

The Maharashtra government has put disaster management systems on high alert. District administrations have been directed to activate emergency protocols, prepare evacuation plans for coastal and flood-prone areas, issue public advisories, and discourage sea travel during the cyclone period.

Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts have been placed under a yellow alert to keep residents informed and prepared.

### Cyclone Shakti Update

As of Friday morning, Cyclone Shakti was located approximately 270 km southwest of Naliya in Gujarat, moving northwest at about 8 km/h. Forecasters expect the system to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by Saturday before moving west-southwest towards the central Arabian Sea by October 5.

Although no direct landfall is anticipated, the cyclone will bring rough seas and heavy rainfall along the coastal regions of Maharashtra.

### October Rainfall Outlook

The IMD has forecast above-normal rainfall for Maharashtra throughout October. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director-General of Meteorology, noted that the month is likely to see increased rainfall activity. With Cyclone Shakti developing in the Arabian Sea, authorities are preparing for intensified rain, especially in coastal and interior districts.

Residents of coastal areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, and those living in flood-prone zones should be ready to evacuate if necessary.
