The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning for parts of Maharashtra, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall between October 3 and 7. The alert specifically covers the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

### Weather and Wind Conditions

Wind speeds along the north Maharashtra coast are expected to range between 45-55 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 65 km/h from October 3 to 5. The IMD has also warned of very rough to high sea conditions in this region during the same period.

### Fishermen Advised Against Sea Travel

Due to the anticipated turbulent sea conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea until October 5 to avoid life-threatening risks.

### Impact of Cyclone Shakti

The outer bands of Cyclone Shakti are likely to bring heavy rainfall to Maharashtra, especially in East Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. This may lead to flooding in low-lying areas of North Konkan.

### Government Preparedness and Safety Measures

The Maharashtra government has put disaster management systems on high alert. District administrations have been instructed to activate emergency protocols, prepare evacuation plans for coastal and low-lying areas, and issue public advisories. Residents are urged to follow safety guidelines, avoid sea travel, and stay vigilant during heavy rains.

Currently, the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are under a yellow alert.

### Cyclone Status Update

As of Friday morning, Cyclone Shakti was located approximately 270 km southwest of Naliya in Gujarat, moving northwest at around 8 km/h. The cyclone is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Saturday and then track west-southwest toward the central Arabian Sea by October 5.

Although no direct landfall is anticipated, forecasters caution about rough seas and heavy rainfall along coastal regions.

### Rainfall Outlook for October

The IMD has predicted above-normal rainfall for Maharashtra throughout October. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director-General of Meteorology, noted that the month is likely to experience increased rainfall activity.

With Cyclone Shakti developing in the Arabian Sea, authorities are preparing for heavy rains, particularly in coastal and interior districts.

Residents of coastal areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, and those in flood-prone zones are urged to evacuate if necessary.

Stay updated with official advisories and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the cyclone and heavy rainfall period.
