**Chrome Will Now Auto-Mute Notifications from Websites You Often Ignore**

Google is rolling out a new feature in its Chrome browser designed to reduce “notification fatigue” by automatically muting notifications from websites that users frequently ignore. This update applies to both Android and desktop versions of Chrome and aims to provide a less intrusive browsing experience.
### How the New Feature Works
The update extends the capabilities of Chrome’s existing Safety Check tool, which currently helps users manage sensitive permissions such as camera access and location tracking. With this enhancement, Chrome will automatically revoke notification permissions for sites that send excessive alerts without any user interaction.
Similar to an existing feature on Android that allows users to unsubscribe from website notifications with a single tap, this new function targets websites with high notification volumes and low engagement rates. Importantly, it does not affect web apps installed on the device.
### Tackling Notification Overload
Google revealed that fewer than 1% of all web notifications in Chrome receive any user interaction, meaning the vast majority of pop-up alerts go ignored. Tests of this feature showed a significant decrease in notification overload, while the total number of notification clicks saw only a minimal drop. Interestingly, websites that send fewer notifications experienced an increase in user clicks.
### User Control and Availability
Users retain full control over this feature. Chrome users can choose to disable the auto-revocation of notification permissions entirely. Additionally, they can re-enable notifications from specific websites by simply revisiting those sites or adjusting permissions via the Safety Check menu.
While Google has yet to announce an exact rollout date, this feature is expected to become available in an upcoming Chrome browser update for all users.
Stay tuned for this helpful improvement designed to make your browsing experience smoother and less cluttered.
