China’s exports surged by a surprising 8.3% year-on-year in September, significantly beating the 6.6% median forecast by economists surveyed by Bloomberg. This growth rate outpaced August’s figures and signals no signs of a slowdown in China’s record-breaking export momentum.

Imports also rose impressively by 7.4% during the same period, resulting in a trade surplus of $90.5 billion for September.

### Trade Resilience Amid Rising Tensions

The robust demand from markets beyond the United States is helping Chinese companies withstand the impact of additional tariffs proposed by President Donald Trump. This growth in overseas sales not only strengthens China’s position in the ongoing trade war but also provides a vital boost to its domestic economy.

Despite these gains, China continues to face economic challenges, including deflation and a slump in housing demand and prices. The resilient trade performance offers some relief amid these domestic pressures.

### Growth Outlook

China is set to release its third-quarter economic activity data on October 20. While most analysts anticipate a slowdown compared to the first half of the year, the strong performance in the initial six months makes it highly likely that China will meet its official growth target of around 5% for 2025.

As trade tensions persist, China’s export growth highlights the country’s ability to adapt and maintain momentum in a challenging global environment.
