The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Chandigarh, Kanwardeep Kaur told newspersons that an information regarding a reported suicide was received from House No 116, Sector 11, Chandigarh, around 1.30 pm and the deceased was identified as Puran Kumar, a 2001 batch Haryana cadre IPS officer.
Pawan Singh’s wife, Jyoti Singh, broke down as police stopped her from entering her husband’s Lucknow home, claiming he filed an FIR against her. Officers asked her to accompany them to the station. Threatening self-harm, she said, “Agar insaaf nahin mila, main yahin zehar kha lungi.” She also accused him of cheating and pleaded for immediate justice.

In Biswanath, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) organised a massive procession where thousands turned up to bid their final farewell to the singer. Streets were lined with fans chanting slogans such as “Zubeen da amar houk (Long live Zubeen)” and “Joy Zubeen da (Hail Zubeen)”. As a mark of respect, all business establishments in Biswanath town also remained closed for 24 hours.
