The Shedeur Sanders era is officially here—at least for a game. Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders made his highly anticipated NFL debut Sunday afternoon, stepping onto the field after starting QB Dillon Gabriel exited in the first half due to a concussion.

The rookie finally took the field during Cleveland’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens to a roaring ovation from home fans, who have been eagerly calling for him to become the starter all season long. Despite the electric atmosphere, it was Baltimore who ultimately prevailed, holding on to a 23-16 victory.

Sanders inherited a six-point lead to open the second half but struggled mightily. He completed only four of 16 passes for 47 yards, threw an interception, and failed to produce a single scoring drive. The rookie was sacked twice and posted a dismal 13.3 passer rating.

I understand that Shedeur Sanders has attracted a lot of critics—something that’s quite evident on social media. People are laughing at him for his rough performance, but come on, it was literally his first game. Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not saying Shedeur is going to be a superstar right away, but give the guy a break.

Additionally, with how humble he’s become and the dramatic change in his attitude since draft night, it’s clear he’s learned his lesson from all the earlier cocky behavior and is now willing to put in the work. I think people are being a bit too harsh on Shedeur, but that’s just my take.
