VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Gavin Brindley scored 1:08 into overtime, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

Nathan MacKinnon had a standout performance with two goals and three assists, taking over the NHL scoring lead. Artturi Lehkonen also scored twice, while Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar each contributed two assists for Colorado.

Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 29 shots, helping the Avalanche secure their third straight win and extend their point streak to 5-0-2.

For Vancouver, Linus Karlsson, Kiefer Sherwood, Drew O’Connor, and Jake DeBrusk found the back of the net. Kevin Lankinen finished with 27 saves.

The game-winning goal came in overtime when Brindley scored on the rebound of his own shot. MacKinnon assisted on the play after leaving the ice, giving him five points on the night and an NHL-leading 29 points for the season.

Jake DeBrusk tied the game 4-4 with a power-play goal with 3:01 remaining in regulation, tipping Brock Boeser’s shot past Blackwood.

Early in the third period, Lehkonen gave Colorado a 3-2 lead with a redirection of a Brent Burns pass just 28 seconds in. Vancouver’s Drew O’Connor answered with a short-handed goal at 7:26, beating Blackwood from the left circle.

Lehkonen scored his second goal of the night on a rebound at 9:47, extending the Avalanche’s lead to 4-3 during another power play. Kiefer Sherwood tied the game 2-2 in the second period at 1:44, picking up a loose puck and backhanding it between Blackwood’s skates for his 10th goal of the season.

MacKinnon set the tone early, giving the Avalanche a 2-0 lead with goals just 1:29 apart in the first period. Cale Makar carried the puck up the right side, passed to Nichushkin in the middle, who then fed MacKinnon for a quick shot that beat Lankinen at 6:41. On Colorado’s power play, MacKinnon received a pass from Victor Olofsson in the slot and fired his NHL-leading 14th goal of the season at 8:10.

Linus Karlsson brought the Canucks within one goal at 8:13 in the first period, skillfully pulling the puck back between his skates at the goal line on the left side and tucking it in.

Up next, the Avalanche will host Anaheim on Tuesday to open a four-game homestand, while the Canucks prepare to host Winnipeg.
