Bears’ D’Andre Swift overcomes groin injury to return for Week 10 vs. Giants
The Chicago Bears offense is riding high after a dominant 47-point performance against the Cincinnati Bengals. That impressive outing improved the Bears’ record to 5-3 this season, keeping them firmly in the hunt within a tight NFC Playoff race.
One of the standout performers in Week 9 was rookie running back Kyle Monangai. He delivered a remarkable performance, totaling 176 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards on 29 touches. This marked the third consecutive week a Bears running back has surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark, signaling a strong ground game for the team.
As the Bears prepare to face the New York Giants in Week 10, they are set to receive another boost in their backfield. Despite being listed as questionable all week due to a groin injury and personal matters, running back D’Andre Swift is expected to suit up against the Giants, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Swift initially sustained the groin injury in Week 6 against the Washington Commanders. Head coach Ben Johnson addressed the situation, noting that while the injury had been nagging Swift for some time, it was not deemed serious. Nevertheless, the injury caused Swift to miss the Week 9 matchup versus the Bengals. Encouragingly, he was a full participant in Chicago’s Thursday practice, signaling progress toward a return.
It remains to be seen whether Swift will reclaim his starting role after Monangai’s breakout game last week. Regardless, Swift’s return will add depth to the Bears’ backfield and likely eliminate the necessity of promoting running back Brittain Brown from the practice squad.
Through seven games in the 2025 season, Swift has recorded 464 rushing yards on 100 attempts, along with five total touchdowns. After a slow start, Swift has found his rhythm over the past three games. Early in the season, he carried the ball 56 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns. In the last three contests, he increased his workload to 44 carries for 277 yards and three touchdowns.
Joining Swift this Sunday will be several other key players returning to action, including tight end Cole Kmet, wide receiver Luther Burden Jr., and running back Roschon Johnson. Their returns should provide the Bears with additional weapons as they look to build on their recent momentum.
