ARC Raiders lead seems unconcerned that it’s launching between Battlefield & COD
This week marks a pivotal moment for Embark Studios as ARC Raiders is set to launch. The game introduces a new IP in the form of a third-person extraction shooter and is scheduled for release tomorrow. Notably, its launch comes precariously positioned between two major titles: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6.
In an interview with The Game Business, as reported by Eurogamer, Söderlund shared his perspective on the timing of ARC Raiders’ release. He expressed that there may never be a “perfect” time to launch the game. Regardless of any criticism about the timing, Söderlund emphasized that the most important thing is simply that the game must come out.
There are valid arguments on both sides of the debate. Söderlund, a former CEO of DICE, is likely familiar with one such example: Titanfall 2 launched between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Many believe this unfortunate timing impacted the level of attention the otherwise stellar FPS received during its lifetime.
However, there is also an argument to be made that ARC Raiders is quite different from both Call of Duty and Battlefield. Because of these differences, it might not have to compete as directly with them as Titanfall did. Only time will tell how the market receives this new IP amidst such high-profile releases.
