ARC Raiders lead seems unconcerned that it’s launching between Battlefield & COD
This week marks a pivotal moment for Embark Studios with the launch of ARC Raiders. As a new IP and a third-person extraction shooter, the game is set to release tomorrow, strategically positioned between the launches of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6.
In an interview with The Game Business, shared by Eurogamer, Embark Studios’ Söderlund expressed his thoughts on the timing of ARC Raiders’ release. He mentioned that he doesn’t believe there will ever be a perfect or poor time for the game to come out. Despite any criticism regarding the launch timing, Söderlund emphasized that the most important thing is that the game simply reaches players.
There are valid arguments on both sides of the discussion. Söderlund is likely familiar with this challenge from his experience as a former CEO of DICE. When Titanfall 2 launched between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it is widely agreed that the timing affected the level of attention the otherwise stellar FPS received during its lifecycle.
However, there is also a strong case to be made that ARC Raiders is quite different from Call of Duty and Battlefield. Because of these differences, it might not have to compete as directly with those titles as Titanfall 2 did. This distinction could work in ARC Raiders’ favor as it enters the market.
