Afghanistan’s Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended in disappointment after their defeat to Sri Lanka by six wickets, resulting in their elimination from the tournament. Adding to the setback, two of Afghanistan’s spinners, Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, faced disciplinary actions for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their match against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

### Code Violations

Noor Ahmad was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” The incident occurred in the 16th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Noor expressed his displeasure after an umpire called one of his deliveries a wide ball.

Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman breached Article 2.2, concerning “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing,” after he broke the stumps with his towel during the match.

### Sanction Details

The charges were brought forward by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Virender Sharma, third umpire Faisal Afridi, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit. The disciplinary process was overseen by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Both Noor and Mujeeb accepted their offenses and the imposed sanctions. Each player received a formal reprimand and one demerit point.

### Record Implications

A formal reprimand is the standard penalty for Level 1 offenses under the ICC Code of Conduct. Such offenses can also attract fines of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

According to ICC regulations, accumulation of four or more demerit points within a 24-month period leads to suspension points, which can result in an automatic ban.

The incidents highlight the importance of maintaining discipline on the field, especially during high-stakes international matches. Afghanistan will be hoping to learn from these setbacks as they prepare for future tournaments.
