**Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman Penalized for Breaching ICC Code of Conduct**

Afghanistan’s Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended on a disappointing note as they were knocked out following a six-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka. The team’s setback was further compounded by disciplinary actions against two of their key spinners, Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

### Code Violations

During the crucial match in Abu Dhabi, both Noor and Mujeeb were found guilty of breaching Level 1 provisions of the ICC Code of Conduct.

– **Noor Ahmad** was charged under Article 2.8 for “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” The incident occurred in the 16th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Noor expressed displeasure after an umpire called one of his deliveries a wide ball.

– **Mujeeb Ur Rahman** violated Article 2.2 for “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing.” He broke the stumps using his towel during the course of the same match.

### Sanctions Imposed

The charges were brought forward by the on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Virender Sharma, third umpire Faisal Afridi, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit. The disciplinary proceedings were overseen by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Both players admitted to their offenses and accepted the sanctions. Each received:

– A formal reprimand
– One demerit point

### Understanding the Penalties

A formal reprimand is the standard punishment for Level 1 offenses as per ICC regulations. These can also include fines of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

In this case, Noor and Mujeeb were handed a reprimand and one demerit point each. According to ICC rules, accumulation of four or more demerit points within a 24-month period results in suspension points, which can lead to an automatic ban.
