**OpenAI to Build Five AI Data Centers in $500 Billion Stargate Project**

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced plans to build five new artificial intelligence (AI) data centers across the United States. This initiative is part of its ambitious $500 billion Stargate project, undertaken in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank.

### Locations of the New Data Centers

Three of the new AI data centers will be developed alongside Oracle, situated in Shackelford County, Texas; Dona Ana County, New Mexico; and an undisclosed location in the Midwest. The remaining two facilities are being built in partnership with SoftBank, located in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas.

### Expanding Stargate’s Capacity

Once completed, these data centers will boost the Stargate project’s capacity to an impressive 7 gigawatts (GW) — enough energy to power over five million homes. This expansion forms a critical part of OpenAI’s broader effort to enhance its infrastructure and support the training and deployment of more powerful AI models.

Recently, OpenAI also announced a $100 billion investment from NVIDIA to purchase advanced AI processors and develop additional data centers. This collaboration aims to further strengthen OpenAI’s leadership in artificial intelligence technology.

### Technological Advancements: The World’s Largest AI Supercluster

The Stargate AI data center in Texas is already garnering attention. Oracle executives have revealed that once fully operational, it will be the world’s largest AI supercluster. The facility features an H-shaped design housing hundreds of thousands of AI computer chips.

Each server rack in the center will be equipped with 72 of NVIDIA’s GB200 chips, specifically designed to handle intensive AI workloads efficiently. This setup is expected to significantly enhance processing power and efficiency.

### Mixed Reactions from Local Communities

While the Stargate project promises substantial job creation and economic benefits for the local areas, there are concerns among residents regarding the project’s water and energy demands. Balancing growth with environmental impact remains a sensitive issue as construction progresses.
