FutureVerse advances plans for new innovation center in Downtown
FutureVerse is moving forward with plans for the Georgia Center for Innovation & Discovery, an educational destination that is proposed for Downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta nonprofit announced that architectural test fits have been completed on several sites in Downtown, and it’s working to secure long-term land control for the planned development. Plans for the science museum were first announced in Spring 2024. Once constructed, the center would feature “immersive exhibits, advanced learning environments and a statewide innovation network,” with the goal of inspiring young people and accelerating “Georgia’s future workforce in science, health, sustainability, mobility and next-generation technologies,” according to a release. FutureVerse projects that the center will attract over 1. 2 million visitors annually, generate more than $100 million in statewide economic impact and serve over 200, 000 students per year. “Our mission is to build a place where students and families discover what is possible. We are not just showing the future, we are helping to discover it too,” said David Wynett, FutureVerse’s president and chief executive officer. FutureVerse says that it has pinned down a number of federal incentives along with state and local funding sources that the organization says would facilitate more than half of the project’s financing. “The economic impact of FutureVerse on Georgia’s economy will be substantial,” said Richard Taylor, chief financial officer of FutureVerse. “With up to 50% supported by public financing mechanisms, the contributions we receive from corporations, foundations and individual donors are multiplied significantly.” In addition to developing the Georgia Center for Innovation & Discovery, FutureVerse recently launched its new pilot program called “Project ASPIRE.” The initiative aims to streamline education for disadvantaged students by offering innovative labs in schools that utilize AI learning tools, VR and AR immersive experiences, as well as “next-generation” classroom design. FutureVerse is currently partnered with the Clayton County School System for Project ASPIRE, with plans to expand into other school districts in the future. “We are not waiting for construction to finish before making a difference,” said Wynett. “We are starting in classrooms today.”.
