Jordan Love throws 2 TD passes as Packers beat Giants 27-20 to end their skid
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Jordan Love returned from a shoulder injury to throw two touchdown passes, backup Malik Willis added one of his own while filling in, and the Green Bay Packers ended their two-game losing streak by defeating the New York Giants 27-20 on Sunday.
Love delivered heroics on the go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter, connecting with rookie Savion Williams on a 32-yard gain under pressure on third-and-10. He then found Christian Watson in the end zone with 4:02 left to take the lead. Many of the green-and-gold clad fans at the Meadowlands chanted, “Go, Pack, Go!” following Love’s successful 2-point conversion toss to Emanuel Wilson.
The victory, however, came at a cost. Starting running back Josh Jacobs exited early in the second quarter with a knee injury and was ruled out just after halftime. Even without Jacobs, the Packers (6-3-1) took advantage early of a Giants run defense that ranks 31st out of the NFL’s 32 teams. They had 106 of their 128 rushing yards before halftime, including Wilson’s touchdown run that capped the drive Willis finished while Love was sidelined.
Love, who injured his left shoulder after a big hit at the end of a run in the first quarter, completed 13 of 24 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns—one to reserve tight end Josh Whyle and another to Watson. He was consistently accurate throughout the afternoon, despite several drops that affected his statistics and threatened to stall Green Bay’s offense.
The Packers’ offense managed to put up just enough points to overcome mistakes in all three phases of the game, including two missed extra points and some ill-timed penalties. Meanwhile, the defense, which had been a strength in recent weeks, allowed a first-quarter touchdown for the first time this season and struggled to contain Jameis Winston and the Giants on a 15-play, 85-yard scoring drive that gave New York a 20-19 lead.
Love’s 3:20-minute drive down the field, culminating in the 17-yard touchdown pass to Watson, along with Evan Williams’ interception of Winston in the end zone with 36 seconds remaining, allowed Green Bay to escape with the win.
For the Giants (2-9), Winston was making his first start in 11 months, and interim coach Mike Kafka was making his debut after the firing of Brian Daboll. New York fell to its fifth consecutive loss. Winston, who was nearly intercepted at least three times in the first three quarters, finished 19 of 29 for 201 yards with a quarterback-sneak touchdown and a game-ending fumble. Meanwhile, Devin Singletary contributed two rushing touchdowns for the Giants.
Packers Nearly Kick Themselves Over Missed Opportunities
Lucas Havrisik, who took over kicking duties with Brandon McManus sidelined due to a quadriceps injury, missed his first extra point attempt wide right and his third wide left. The Packers now lead the league with nine missed kicks, including field goals.

– Packers linebacker Quay Walker left in the third quarter due to a stinger.

– Cornerback Paulson Adebo was a late scratch after feeling knee discomfort during pregame warmups. Adebo has been out for nearly a month.
