The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced a special **Muhurat Trading** session on the occasion of Diwali. This year, the event will take place on **October 21**, from **1:45 PM to 2:45 PM**. Notably, the pre-opening session will be held earlier than usual, from **1:30 PM to 1:45 PM**, instead of the traditional evening timing.

Muhurat Trading marks the beginning of a new **Samvat** or Hindu calendar year. It is considered an auspicious time when trading is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth to investors and stakeholders.

### Market Closure on Diwali

The stock market will remain closed for regular trading throughout Diwali, except for this special one-hour Muhurat Trading session. All trades executed during this session will carry settlement obligations.

Despite the session’s short duration, it is conducted with full formalities and recorded just like any regular trading day. Investors often consider it auspicious to invest during Muhurat Trading, with many purchasing shares for long-term holding or as part of family traditions.

### Historical Market Trends During Muhurat Trading

Historically, Muhurat Trading sessions have shown positive returns despite relatively low trading volumes. In the past 16 years, the indices have closed in the green on 13 occasions, underlining the generally favorable sentiment during this event.

Last year, the session ended on a strong note, with the **Sensex** rising by 335 points (0.42%) to close at 79,724, and the **Nifty** gaining 99 points (0.41%) to finish at 24,304.
