Donald Trump took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday to launch a sharp attack against NBC’s Seth Meyers. In his post, Trump accused Meyers of suffering from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)” and criticized the ratings of Meyers’ show.

“He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER,” Trump wrote.

What drew further attention was the reaction from Brendan Carr, the Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr shared Trump’s exact quote on social media, notably without adding any commentary or caption.

Gregg Nunziata, an attorney and public policy expert with deep roots in the conservative legal movement, questioned Carr’s decision, asking, “Why in the world is the FCC chairman posting this?”

NPR’s David Folkenflik highlighted the significance of the moment, noting, “Nation’s top broadcast regulator amplifies President Trump’s call for network to fire satirist who mocked him.”

Politics & Poll Tracker also reported, “The chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, posts a screenshot of Trump post calling for Seth Meyers to be fired.”

The reaction among political observers was strongly critical. Scholar Norman Ornstein called the move an “Utter disgrace,” labeling Carr as “Unfit for any office.”

Protect Kamala Harris further underscored the implications, writing, “NEW: Donald Trump has called for NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers to be taken off the air in an evening tirade on social media. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr shared the post, hinting he may take action against the network.”

The incident has sparked a wider debate about the role of government officials in engaging with partisan attacks on public platforms, raising questions about impartiality and freedom of expression.
