CARBONDALE, Kan. (AP) — Multiple law enforcement officers were shot Saturday morning while responding to a residence in a rural area south of Topeka, Kansas. The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m.

It is currently unclear how many officers were involved or their exact conditions. Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Melissa Underwood described the situation as “still very fluid.”

Officials are also withholding details on a suspect at this time. It remains unclear whether anyone else was shot during the incident.

The shooting took place in a rural region near U.S. Highway 75. Authorities have confirmed there is no active threat to the public.

A news conference is planned in the nearby town of Carbondale to provide further updates.
